Vocational Services are
provided at two larger locations in Sioux Falls and at smaller enclaves throughout the city. We focus on developing
independent work skills for those people who are interested in earning paychecks and having a job. Individuals who
participate in this program, develop independence, self-esteem and satisfaction from working.
DakotAbilities has contracts with several businesses in the Sioux Falls and surrounding areas. Much of the work is brought
in to our main Center at 3600 S. Duluth to be completed by the people receiving vocational services. Contract work is also
completed at our location one block west of the Center on Norton. Much of the work is piece work, packaging, counting and
sorting. People are paid at a piece rate meaning they are paid for the amount of pieces they are able to assemble.
Several community worksites are also supported by DakotAbilities. The lunch counters at City Hall and the Minnehaha county
courthouse provide limited food services to those facilities. We have been working with Citibank since their arrival in
South Dakota and have performed several different employment tasks for them over the years. People are also part of work
crews at CCL Label, Goodwill, Hy-Vee and with selling Argus Leader newspapers at a local hospital.
