DakotAbilities
provides support services in homes and apartments throughout the City of Sioux Falls.
There are approximately 110 people receiving various levels of support services
at more than 14 locations. DakotAbilities owns 8 of the facilities and individuals
own or rent the remaining homes or apartments.
Transportation - Each residence is supported through a fleet of vans owned and operated
by DakotAbilities. Many homes also utilize Sioux Falls Paratransit or fixed route
bussing.
Assistance is provided with meal preparation and house cleaning in addition to the
basic personal care and medical needs of each person in the homes.
Residential Locations:
Valley - This home supports 15 people with significant health problems.
In addition to residential staff, Valley provides care 24 hours per day by professional
nursing staff. Valley nursing supports staff agency-wide during the evening and
weekend hours by giving approval for one-time medications and advice on minor medical
issues.
Blaine and Morrison - These homes support 15 and 16 people respectively
and are located in residential areas. Nursing support is provided in both settings
with several scheduled hours per week available at the Morrison house.
Several smaller homes are scattered throughout the community's residential neighborhoods.
These 5 and 6 resident homes blend in with surrounding homes and are very comfortable
and intimate family settings.
DakotAbilities also supports several apartment and individual home settings across
Sioux Falls. Residents of the Sycamore Apartments have room mates and a paging system
to access staff if they are needed outside of regularly scheduled hours. Staff is
on site at the Sycamore Apartments 24 hours a day. Other locations in Sioux Falls
offer apartments or homes for just one person. Residents of those locations schedule
attendant care hours and have a paging system set up to access staff away from their
setting in case a need arises.
